Your Next Customer Might Find You Inside ChatGPT

Your Next Customer Might Find You Inside ChatGPT

A homeowner’s water heater quits on a Sunday night. A year ago, they would have opened Google, scrolled through ads and map listings, and started making calls. Today, more of them are simply asking ChatGPT.

And thanks to a new partnership between Yelp and OpenAI, ChatGPT can now do more than suggest a plumber. It can help that homeowner request a quote from one.

What’s Changing

In July 2026, Yelp announced it is licensing its reviews, ratings, photos and business details to OpenAI. When people ask ChatGPT for local recommendations, Yelp’s information can now appear right inside the conversation.

The bigger news for home services businesses is Request a Quote. Yelp has begun rolling out the feature inside ChatGPT, so a homeowner can:

  • Describe the problem in plain language
  • See local businesses with their ratings, reviews and details
  • Tap a “Get Quote” button on eligible listings
  • Answer a few job-specific questions
  • Send the request to your business without ever leaving the chat

Yelp says this could put businesses in front of up to 97 million ChatGPT users, citing Comscore data from July 2026. For businesses already set up to receive quote requests on Yelp, there’s no extra setup required.

Why It Matters for Home Services

This is a fundamental shift in how customers find contractors. Search used to be a list of links. Now it’s becoming a conversation that ends with an action.

When a homeowner asks an AI assistant for help, they aren’t comparing ten websites. They’re choosing from a short list of businesses the AI trusts. If your business isn’t on that list, you aren’t in the running. And unlike a website visit, a quote request arrives with the job already described, which makes it one of the warmest leads you can get.

It also means your Yelp profile has become far more than a review page. It’s now part of how AI tools understand who you are, what you do and where you work.

There’s one important catch: Yelp can send the same request to several businesses at once. The quote may come to you, but so might your competitors. Being found is only half the battle. Responding first, and well, is the other half.

5 Steps to Get Ready Now

The rollout is still early, and appearing in ChatGPT isn’t guaranteed. Neither Yelp nor OpenAI has published how businesses are selected. But you can control the fundamentals:

  1. Claim and complete your Yelp profile. Keep your categories, services, service area, hours and contact details accurate.
  2. Turn on Request a Quote and messaging. If these settings are off, the Get Quote button can’t appear for your business.
  3. Refresh your photos. Show real jobs, real trucks and your real team.
  4. Earn and respond to reviews. Consistent, detailed reviews build trust with homeowners and with the platforms that recommend you.
  5. Respond fast. Yelp alerts you when a new request arrives, and leaving inquiries unanswered too long can get your messaging turned off. Speed to lead wins jobs.
